Is @Netflix throttling customers so that they upgrade plans?

Is Netflix throttling customers so they upgrade plans?  A web search will tell you that some people definitely seem to think so...

I know our streaming service wasn't slow so much until the last month or two - definitely reaching unbearable levels the last few weeks ...if there is a reasonable explanation, I'd love to hear it.

Alternatives do exist:  Amazon Prime streaming is actually cheaper than Netflix if you break it down by month, plus it's more likely to work on my home Linux machines (the only place we can use Netflix is on the Wii or the Android devices)..

As a favor, please let us know if you use Amazon Prime or any other alternative.  We're definitely looking for better...

Baby Changing Friendly! Target - Lancaster, CA

As parents of a 13-month-old, we've been thinking it would be cool if we had an easy way to remember where the baby changing stations are around town.  The thought that others might find it useful crossed our minds as well...  So here's the 1st!

The Obama-Bot says that he’s a “change” from your previous model of battle-mech, but the longer we see him in action, the more his “pop-out-under-hand-cannons” & other such attack weapons seem to be virtually identical to previous battle-mech’s…

Will we see some new maneuvers from the O-Bot, or will he have us looking for old Gobots reruns?

Welcome Ari To Krikit Media!

I'm very happy to present to you my beautiful wife Ari as the newest addition to Krikit Media!

She has been a huge part of things for a few years now, but is now a more public & official part of the brand, that up until recently was pretty much represented by yours truly.

We've kicked off the new era of Krikit Media this past weekend doing caricatures & face painting at some family-friendly events over Halloween weekend.

We're both extremely excited with the energy, focus, & creativity fueling our momentum right now & can't wait for what awaits.

Big Beautiful Brother (man, if that doesn't sound creepy...)

ah, the weekend approaches - weekends seem silly when recently riddled with family bouts of stomach flu...

& in a not-so-distant vein... would anyone out there get annoyed if their job started following them on Twitter?... I mean "normal" type companies/entities (not social-media saavy/understanding companies) - enough of these guys have already shown their inability to cut the big brother act on their employees off-work time... I've made it a point to not be revealing of where I work online for these reasons...

... but if they're following me on Twitter, to me, there's a specific line that they have crossed.  I won't ever believe a workplace deserves more trust than they show their employees - not ever.

Octopus Gets Totally Owned by 5 Month Old!

Imag0090

so, Jackson (my 5 month old son) has this octopus that you can put on the bath faucet so he won't bang his head during bath time.

During tonight's bath, he goes nuts kicking on the thing (with calm resolve, not freaked out, mind you), making it fall off.  I pick it up & put it back on the faucet, not thinking too much about it.

He then proceeds to kick on it again, knocking it off.  This time, while we were staring amused, he quickly starts peeing on the newly sunken plastic octopus.

Really, it can't have anything to do with him watching the UFC fight this weekend, right? ;p

woohoo! fixed video playback on my newly updated Linux Mint DE!

Libavcodec52-solution

after several recent updates to my Linux Mint DE system, videos weren't playing... even in swiss-army-knife-player VLC...

"No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "mp4v". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

after googling it, I found this Ubuntu Forums thread pointing towards a "libavcodec52" file which may need to be installed.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?s=c24cadc3d9800ddde2dcea47a3520e6c&t=1306803&page=2

Although it was an old forum post, I checked in Synaptic, & it did indeed have an upgrade available for that file - done & done... problem solved.

From the "Because They Think We're Stupid" category: Documents Obtained by EFF Reveal FBI Patriot Act Abuses

When the FBI is monitoring children's phone calls, it's definitely time to rein in the PATRIOT Act.

UPDATE: At a hearing in 2009, Senator Feingold stated: "I recall during the debate in 2005 that proponents of Section 215 argued that these authorities had never been misused. even though most probably know about the Jobs/Apple connections, we tried not to think it was favoritism... when all of us Android people were waiting for Marvel to throw us a bone... while Apple was well situated as the "true believers" platform with a dedicated Marvel app of their very own, but after this newsletter hyping the Marvel Event app...

some clarity would be nice... I think Marvel meant "free on all Apple platforms" - which is really only one of the mobile platforms out there :-P

REBLOG: Latest developments from Fukushina: "three raging meltdowns" now under way (2nd post attempt)

Here are the latest developments on the Fukushima catastrophe, including quotes from a well-known physicist who is now raising the alarm over "three raging meltdowns" at the Fukushima complex.

Please forward this email to those who need to see this information.

* As the Wall Street Journal reports (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703806304576233221749626458.html), the U.S. government has now admitted that radiation is being found in milk from Washington state. They say it's "safe" to drink, of course. That's the U.S. government for you: Irradiated milk is safe, but raw milk is dangerous!

* The battle to save Fukushima is now over, as Japanese officials admit the nuclear power complex must now be abandoned and entombed (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1371793/Fukushima-nuclear-plant-entombed-concrete-Japan-admits-lost-battle-crippled-reactors.html?ito=feeds-newsxml). The Dailymail published, "officials said it would mean switching off all power and abandoning attempts to keep the nuclear fuel rods cool." The problem with that, of course, is that there are already "three raging meltdowns" under way as Dr. Kaku explains (below). If you abandon efforts to cool the fuel rods, then an accelerated meltdown is "inevitable," says Dr. Kaku.

* Japanese nuclear experts now admit it will require 20 years to decommission the Fukushima nuclear reactors. (http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/03/82090.html)

* Cesium-137 has now been found 25 miles from Fukushima at such dangerously high concentrations that they far exceed the threshold of land abandonment used by the Soviet Union following the Chernobyl catastrophe (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/31/world/asia/31japan.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss). This is raising questions of whether the evacuation zone around Fukushima should now be expanded.

* It has now been revealed that Japan's nuclear disaster preparedness plans were written by complete morons. The entire Fukushima power plant complex, for example, called for only one emergency stretcher to be on-site, and only 50 protective suits (even though hundreds of people worked there). Do you see shades of the TITANIC at play here? (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703712504576232961004646464.html)

* In a shocking video interview, physicist Dr. Michio Kaku explained, "If it goes to a full-scale evacuation of all personnel, it means that firefighters are no longer putting water onto the cores. That's the only thing preventing a full-scale meltdown at three reactor sites. Once they evacuate, then we past the point of no return. Meltdowns are inevitable at three reactor sites, leading to a tragedy far beyond that of Chernobyl, creating permanent dead zones in Japan." Watch that video at: http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=604AB3FA803FF3647DF6E34EC5E8C8A0

* Meanwhile, the Fukushima denialists are in full swing, complaining that anyone talking about Fukushima's meltdown is "fearmongering." One especially idiotic journalist in the UK constructed a completely fabricated article today, claiming that "nobody has suffered or will suffer any radiological health consequences [from Fukushima]." How's that for a total denial of reality? This writer goes on to say, "The nuclear power plants in the stricken region have suffered less damage and caused less trouble to local residents than anything else that was there." (I'm not linking to this source because they don't deserve the attention, but trust me, this is from a major newspaper in the UK.) It just goes to show you that these spin doctors will stop at nothing to try to convince people that nuclear power is the safest thing in the world. There's little question that most of these denialists are on the payroll of the nuclear industry (or just hate the human race for their own twisted or demonic reasons).

* As reported by the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/31/world/asia/31japan.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss), "The level of radioactive iodine 131 in the waters off the Daiichi plant continued to increase on Thursday, rising to 4,385 times the statutory limit... The increases raise the possibility that contaminants from the plant are continuously leaking into the sea."

* Fears about radioactive seafood are growing as Japan's ocean waters are increasingly contaminated with very high levels of radiation, now even exceeding the 3,300 times recently reported (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Tainted-seafood-fears-spread-apf-166668369.html?x=0&.v=19).

But remember, everyone: There's nothing to worry about according to your government! Don't be concerned about radiation. It's invisible, so it must be safe!

At least, that's the message we're hearing from many "official" sources. The FDA, laughably, thinks that drinking radioactive milk in the U.S. is just fine for you, but drinking RAW milk is extremely dangerous!

That's how twisted things have become in our world today: The stuff that's actually good for you is outlawed, criticized or suppressed. But the things that are really dangerous for your health -- ionizing radiation, vaccines, GMOs, chemotherapy and pesticides -- are all promoted as the solutions for our world.

It's insane, of course. Beyond insane. And it's all being done in the name of "science," which has proven itself to be the cause of needless suffering, death and destruction across our world. Beware of anything being done today under the claim of being "scientific." That's now a red flag keyword for something that will probably either harm your health or contribute to the destruction of the planet.
